CDC held a hearing Thursday to discuss draft guidelines the federal agency drew up to address soaring rates of opioid analgesic abuse. CDC’s draft guidelines, published earlier this month, would not be mandatory but would give primary-care doctors advice for safer prescribing of a powerful class of medication that carries significant risk for abuse, the agency said.
