Childhood asthma has become more pronounced in the Western world in the past 50 years or so, and researchers suspect that vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy may be contributing to the problem. Danish researchers, building on observational studies, investigated whether giving women vitamin D supplements toward the end of gestation lowers the risk of persistent wheeze in their babies.
