A new Thomson Reuters report predicts there will be seven “blockbuster” drugs launched this year. While 2015 had 11 new blockbuster drugs, the forecast for drugs with at least $1 billion annual sales potential this year still bodes well for the pharmaceutical industry. Among the top drugs expected for 2016 are Intercept Pharmaceuticals’ chronic liver disease drug obeticholic acid and Gilead Sciences’new fixed-dose HIV drug emtricitabine plus tenofovir alafenamide.
