Sexual transmission of Zika virus reported in Texas

Health officials in Texas reported Tuesday the first case of Zika virus transmission via sexual contact. Dallas County Health and Human Services said the patient contracted the virus from an infected individual. That person had contracted the virus while in Venezuela, which has reported an outbreak of Zika. Researchers have known that the virus can be transmitted through sex; however, most cases are spread through bites from infected mosquitoes.
