Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) analogues are licensed for type 2 diabetes, but they could also be effective in treating patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. To test this, researchers injected the long-acting GLP-1 analogue liraglutide into 26 patients and compared that sample with a matching placebo group. The primary outcome measure was the resolution of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis with no worsening in fibrosis for 48 weeks.
