While adults are recommended to get at least 7 hours of sleep each night, new research shows that many people get less than that amount. CDC researchers looked at data from the 2014 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System to assess the prevalence of a healthy sleep duration among more than 444,300 adults in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. According to the data, 65.2% of respondents reported a healthy sleep duration. Among states, estimates of healthy sleep duration ranged from 56% in Hawaii to about 72% in South Dakota.
