The Better Health Pharmacy in San Jose, CA, offers free prescription drugs to everyone. The pharmacy—staffed by volunteer pharmacists and run by the Santa Clara County Public Health Department—requires no copays, deductibles, proof of income, or ID, only a doctor’s prescription. In 2005, a California law was passed that allowed counties to accept and redistribute previously sold, unexpired, and unopened prescription medications to people in need.
