St. Louis will become the second city to introduce DEA’s “360 Strategy,” a campaign against fatal heroin and prescription drug overdoses that launched first in Pittsburgh. Along with traditional law enforcement agents, the initiative will enlist pharmacists and other medical professionals, drug makers, community organizations, and other interests to help stamp out the epidemic. The role of pharmacists will be to help inform prescription drug users on how to safely store and dispose of medicines, especially opioid analgesics, to prevent their theft or abuse.
