A recent study sought to assess the efficacy and safety of intensive blood pressure-lowering strategies. Researchers analyzed 19 trials with 44,989 patients, completing meta-analyses of blood pressure reductions on relative risk (RR) of major cardiovascular events, mortality, and other adverse events. Patients who received more intensive blood pressure-lowering treatment had blood pressure readings of 133/76 mm Hg, compared with 140/81 mm Hg in the less intensive group.
