The Generic Pharmaceutical Association (GPhA) recently briefed Congress about generic drug costs and their effects on the problems facing the nation. In a statement from GPhA President and CEO Chip Davis, the association noted that generic drug prices drive drug savings as opposed to costs, and the focus should be on ways to increase pharmaceutical competition while expanding access to safe, effective generic medication. According to IMS Health generics make up 88% of prescriptions in the United States and only account for one-third of prescription drug costs.
