Heroin use increased significantly in the United States from 2002 through 2013, for men and women, most age groups, and all income levels, according to a new Vital Signs report from CDC and FDA. The data show that heroin use rose 63% during the study period. Along with the increase in use is an increase in heroin-related overdose deaths, nearly quadrupling between 2002 and 2013. Statistics show that the rate of fatal heroin-related overdoses quadrupled during the study period.
