Amid mounting concern over compounding pharmacies that include physicians among their owners or investors, officials in Texas are trying to halt what many view as a kickback scheme. While doctors’ financial affiliations are permissible if disclosed, some suspect that physicians are accepting illegal payouts for writing prescriptions for compounding products and services. “It adds a financial incentive, which at times can be unethical, especially if there is no benefit to the patient,” remarks state Sen.
